Center for Spiritual Living (CSL), Chicago is a trans-denominational church dedicated to assisting people in awakening to their own love, passion and power through joy and celebration. Reverend Mark Anthony Lord is the founder and Spiritual Director with a radical message of self-love and acceptance. "CSL is the fulfillment of a twelve-year vision of a spiritual community where we consciously awaken to Spirit within - healing our beliefs in separation which allows us to experience our Oneness with all."

REV IT UP
Blessings Spiritual Community
BallofTwine.jpg
"Transformation and change takes an enormous amount of energy, attention, intention and prayer. Attending Sunday services and classes or even reading a library full of spiritual books is ultimately insufficient for us to evolve into the highest expression of ourselves. We need to be together in community."

Reverend Denise grew up an "unchurched American" without much religious background, but with a desire for spiritual community. Formerly in information technology, she found herself going from "high tech to high touch," transforming in the process. She found the Science of the Mind message a logical one and realized it wasn't about God doing the work, but her doing the work.

In 2003, Reverend Denise graduated ministerial school alongside Reverend Mark Anthony Lord. She began work for Agape as Director of Adminstration in the Education Department, then went from being Chief Operating Engineer at United Centers for Spiritual Living to founding several spiritual centers. Reverend Denise's role at CSL is Administrative Director and Executive Director, providing spiritual leadership for the divine right use of resources in a loving, conscious way. She will oversee finances, human resources, community initiatives and facilities. And because she is an avid yoga practitioner and instructor, we may see some yoga classes in the future.

"In spiritual community, an essential ingredient in the movement towards fulfillment, we are remembered for whom we really are, regardless of the life experience we are moving through at the moment. We are known and loved. We make a difference in the lives of others. We blossom into the beautiful and unique emanations of God that we have always been."

"Therefore, I greet you, my spiritual family. I look forward to many moments of joy-filled activities. Let us preciously care for each other as we continue our supported and blessed journey of transforming ourselves and the world."

Namaste,
Rev. Denise
SPIRITUAL PRACTICES
"These lessons are dedicated to that Truth which frees man from himself and sets him on the pathway of a new experience, which enables him to see through the mist to the Eternal and Changeless Reality."

-- SOM Textbook, Ernest Holmes

Seva

At CSL, we promote a way of living based on the wheel of spiritual balance. There are seven spokes on the wheel, all stemming from the center which is visioning. These spokes represent the major principles and practices of a well-balanced spiritual life. They include meditation, prayer, study, tithing, forgiveness, gratitude and seva.

Seva is a Sanskrit word for "being in selfless service to the world without any expectation of reward." Seva is the working together with God. It is those actions that seek a collective uplifting through an understanding of the needs of others, based on togetherness and integration. It is the one surrendering to serve the all - the true desire of the individual's divine efforts to provide a greater experience for the many.

Seva is more than asking "How can I help?" It is more about "How can I serve?" With helping, there can be an element of fixing - work sometimes based in the ego. Helping implies that there is something wrong or broken. Seva is service reflecting the whole. While helping can deplete and drain, service strengthens and renews. Seva service is finding our own singular expression of God. It is an experience of mystery, surrender and awe.

After Sunday service, stop by the Seva table. Look at all the possibilities from marketing to working with kids. Find your true calling to service and follow it. Ernest Holmes wrote: "When a person's thought rests entirely upon themselves, they become abnormal and unhappy; but when they give themselves with enthusiasm to any legitimate purpose, losing themselves in the thing they are doing, they become normal and happy." Your compassion and individual expression form the transformational vibration that brings more joy and more light into this world. We can't do it without you!

SEVA OPPORTUNITIES

"Our greatest duty and our main responsibility is to help others. But please, if you can't help them, would you please not hurt them."
-- Dalai Lama

Current Needs
Bookstore:  People to serve before and/or after service. Team Co-Lead needed also. A totally cool place to meet people and touch so many inspiring books!

Set-up: People to setup before service starting at 8:30 and finishing by 9:15. Are you an early riser? Love to make it all beautiful? This team is for you.

Restoration: People to tear down starting at 12:15 and finishing by 1pm. "Clean this place up! I can't stand this mess. "If this is you, this team is for you!"

How Do I Become a SEVA Volunteer?
We appreciate people volunteering for a three month term. Volunteers can serve once a month but twice would be ideal. We hope to fill each team with 10-12 members so that volunteers can rotate.  Ideally, two to three of the same people each week help anchor the team, and the lead is always there. Contact Gina at gina@chicagocsl.org or in person at the SEVA Table after Sunday Service.

SEVA luncheon/orientation
Current SEVA Teams come join us on March 2nd! The teams will get to know each other and spend time visioning for their area. One really important aspect of SEVA is the support network. Rev. Mark insists that team members are spiritually nurtured as they serve.
